02 / 17 Mo Willems Start: 5:00 pm Mo Willems returns to Houston to share his newest character, Cat the Cat. He'll read from the two new Cat the Cat books, Cat the Cat, Who Is That? and Let's Say Hi to Friends Who Fly. Come meet Mo and learn about the newest series he's created! To meet Cat the Cat before the big event, visit Mo's newest website. We anticipate a large group for this event, so we will hold it at Meadow Wood Elementary School, just down the street from the shop. The event is free and open to the public. If you would like to go through the signing line and meet Mo Willems for book personalization, you must purchase from Blue Willow Bookshop either Cat the Cat, Who Is That? or Let's Say Hi to Friends Who Fly. You will receive a signing line ticket at the time of purchase. Signing Line tickets will be available beginning January 4. Mo will sign all books purchased at the event and one book brought from home. No flash photography or video will be allowed at the event. more info
02 / 18 LifeChanger: Gretchen Rubin Start: 7:00 pm We are pleased to kick off a new type of event called LifeChanger. A LifeChanger event will feature an author whose work will change your outlook on life. Our inaugural LifeChanger author will be Gretchen Rubin, author of *The Happiness Project. 02 / 19 Ally Carter @BW Start: 7:00 pm Ally Carter, author of the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, will visit to discuss and sign her newest novel, *Heist Society. Heist Society* is the beginning of a new series about a girl named Kat whose entire family is made up of con artists and burglars. She's trying to quit the family business, but beginning a normal life proves to be harder than she thought. When her father is threatened, Kat must go back into the criminal life to prove him innocent. She travels all over Europe, searching for clues and finding the truth. It's a window into the culture of the Clinton White House, witnessed through the eyes of a young female aide. Stacy interned in George Stephanopoulos' office for three years, then became an assistant to Paul Begala, and also served as a presidential advance person. 03 / 1 Lisa See Start: 7:00 pm We are huge fans of Lisa See and are thrilled to welcome her back to Houston! She'll be in town to celebrate the paperback release of *Shanghai Girls. Shanghai Girls* is the story of Pearl and May Chin who must flee pre-WWII Shanghai, ultimately across the Pacific to California where they face an unknown future as immigrants and wives in a hostile society. Throughout their lives they are inseparable but face impossible choices and harbor a devastating secret. 03 / 3 John Otis Start: 7:00 pm John Otis, who served as South America Bureau Chief for the Houston Chronicle from 1997-2008, will visit Blue Willow Bookshop to discuss and sign his new book, Law of the Jungle. 03 / 8 Mary Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce Start: 5:00 pm Mary Pope Osborne, author of The Magic Treehouse series, returns to Houston to celebrate the publication of the 43rd Magic Treehouse book, *Leprechaun in Late Winter. Mary’s sister, Natalie Pope Boyce, the author of the nonfiction companion research guide, Leprechauns and Irish Folklore, will also be here. To learn more about Mary, visit her website. The Magic Treehouse series follows Jack and his kid sister Annie as they find themselves traveling to a variety of places and times. It’s a great series for emerging readers, introducing them to characters they begin to regard as friends and wish to visit again and again. In Leprechaun in Late Winter, Annie and Jack find themselves in the Ireland of 1862, equipped only with a magic whistle and the charge to convince an unhappy young girl that she has much to give to the cultural life of Ireland. As we expect a large crowd, we will hold this event at Westchester Academy, 901 Yorkchester, in Houston. There will be a brief presentation followed by the opportunity to meet the authors. Instead of a traditional signing, the authors will stamp rather than sign their books. In order to get a signing line ticket to meet the authors, you must purchase Leprechaun in Late Winter* from Blue Willow Bookshop. Signing line tickets are issued in order of purchase.
